Ingredients

  • 6 numbers medium-sized carrots
  • 1 cup water steaming carrots in instant pot
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds optional
  • 1 tsp urad dal optional
  • 1 pinch hing optional
  • 1 onion finely chopped medium size
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder decrease or increase according to spice level
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder optional

Instructions

  1. Instant pot carrots

  2. Wash the carrots in running water and trim off the edges and peel the skin and keep it ready
  3. Pour roughly around 1 cup of water in the inner pot.
  4. Place the stainless steel steamer basket in the instant pot.
  5. Add the carrots to the stainless steel steamer basket.
  6. Close the lid and turn the venting knob to a sealing position.
  7. Steam carrots at 6 minutes ‘HIGH’ and do a quick release if you want firm carrots.
  8. If you plan to give as finger food for your kid or you need a soft carrot steam the carrot ‘HIGH’ for 6 minutes and let the pressure release naturally.
  9. Open the lid once the floating valve has dropped.
  10. Take the carrot from instant pot and make your family favorite steam carrots recipe or enjoy the instant pot carrots as such

  12. Take the steamed carrot from instant pot and keep it aside.
  13. Turn on the instant pot /stove add 1 tablespoon of oil of your choice. If using instant pot use saute mode normal’.
  14. Once the oil turns hot add the 1 tsp of mustard seeds and wait for the mustard seeds to pop up.
  15. Add 1 onion finely chopped and saute till it becomes translucent. Add salt, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and cook for 2 minutes.
  16. Add the steamed carrots and mix them gently and turn off
