Ingredients

  • 1 cup 10 bean soup mix or any soup lentil mix
  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 1/2 tbsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 cup rice
  • salt to taste
  • 1 number onion finely chopped(optional)
  • few cilantro leaves finely chopped(optional)
  • 4 numbers red chilies reduce or decrease according to spice level
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 numbers garlic cloves

Instructions

  1. Wash the bean mix a few times in running water and soak it with enough water for 3-6 hours

  2. Wash and soak the rice, fenugreek seeds , urad dal,red chilies wth enough water for 3- 6 hours

  3. Drain the water completely.Add everything together into the blender with garlic, cumin seeds and grind it into a coarse paste. Add water little by little. If you are using Vitamix please use 3-4 ice cubes while grinding and I used smoothie mode.

  4. Add salt to taste.

  5. For fermentation, i placed the batter in the instant pot (Yogurt mode) for 3 hrs. You can skip this step and do the savory pancake directly in the pan. We like the batter little fermented so i do this step always.

  6. Add chopped onions , cilantro and mix it with the batter.

  7. Take a griddle or a pan . Once it turns hot add a drop of oil and spread it across the pan so that the pancake will coming easy without sticking.

  8. Take a ladle of batter and make a circle in the centre of the pan.

  9. After few seconds pour oil across the sides of the savory pancake. Use a lid and close it for a few seconds so that it gets cooked on both sides.

  10. Take off the lid and flip the pancake other side and add a few drops of oil to get the crispness

  11. Your savoury pancake is ready to serve.
