Please make sure you avoid these 10 mistakes beginners make. The more you get the basics right its more fun to play with this instant pot.
Let us see the 10 common instant pot mistakes beginners make
Instant pot Mistake 1:Forgot Inner pot
As a beginner, we get excited to play around with this instant pot but at the same time let’s make sure the inner pot is in place before we go ahead and pour anything inside the pot.
Mistake 2: Double Quantity with the incorrect measurement
When a recipe calls for a 1 cup measurement please stick on to that measurement mentioned .When you want to double the quantity make sure you use the same time as you use for 1 cup measurement.
Mistake 3: Sealing/Venting
Make sure the sealing or venting mode is set correctly. Sometimes we forget to turn the knob, especially I do this mistake when I go out with a delay timer set. You will not have this issue if you have the new instant pot model like instant pot ultra or instant pot duo.
Mistake 4: QR/NPR
Still confused with QR, NPR acronyms click here for acronyms and terminologies printable. When the recipe calls for a quick release you need to do quick release else the food might get overcooked.
Mistake 5: Less water/too much water
Always make sure the right amount of water is used. If you use less water you will get a ‘BURN’ sign or if you use too much water the food becomes soggy and tasteless.
Mistake 6: Inner Ring not placed properly
When you put the inner ring put it in the right position else you will see the steam coming all the sides of the lid.
Mistake 7: Warm mode makes food more dry
Please make sure you use the ‘WARM’ mode only when needed. Unplug the instant pot once you finished cooking. The more you put the instant pot in warm mode, the food will get dried and water will be absorbed and make it dry.
Mistake 8: Placing on Stovetop
Never keep your instant pot on the stovetop. This will lead to burn and accidents by turning on the stove burner. Have a separate place where there is no fire or water closer to the instant pot. This will not only increase the life of the instant pot but also keeps you safer from injuries.
Mistake 9: Rice button to cook more than one food
I always see people complain about the dal or lentils not getting cooked in the PIP method. When do you ask what method you used? They say ‘RICE ‘mode. Please understand the pressure for rice by default is set to ‘low pressure’ and the dal or lentils need high pressure to cook. So instead of using ‘RICE’ mode use pressure cook/ manual to make PIP cooking successful.
Mistake 10: Using Delay Timer without Sealing position, enough water
When you want to use a delay timer for cooking and leave the house please make sure you add enough water and the vent is set to sealing position. By doing this will avoid instant pot bursting or burning the food.
