Instant pot kalakand |Milk burfi is one of my childhood favorite desserts. Just like Mysore Pak, almond katli, Kaju katli this is unstoppable with one. All you need is just 3 ingredients whole milk, sugar, ghee.
My grandma used to make these instant pot kalakand | milk barfi sweet for hours and hours of stirring in the stovetop with so much love and patience during the Diwali festival. After my grandma passed away I tasted the same recipe from my mother in law after my marriage.
When my mother in law wants to send some sweets from India I always ask her signature milk burfi. Last time during her visit I learned the art of making this burfi sweet in stovetop. Now with instant pot, I want to make an easier version.

How to make kalakand
This kalakand i made little harder like burfi .If you want soft version you can stop cooking process earlier so you eat soft and chewy kalakand.
First lets turn on the instant pot to sauté mode with normal temperature. Before adding the ingredients wait for the display to turn hot.
Once it displays hot add 2 tsp of ghee, milk and sugar. Mix it well.
Let the mix keep boiling .Stir it once in a while.
Once the milk mix starts to become light brown color, reduce the temperature from normal to low,add rest of the ghee little by little keep stirring .This is when you need to be closer and stir it continuously with close montioring.
Keep stirring until the mixture leave sides.
Grease a tray with ghee and pour the mix immediately.After few minutes cut into squares and enjoy.
How to make kalakand with ricotta cheese ?
kalakand with ricotta cheese is a another version where we use milk powder and ricotta cheese to make this will make you kalakand in white color. I will post the recipe soon.
Kalakand and Milk cake are same ?
Yes ,in north India people call this as kalakand and in southern India people call it as milk cake or milk burfi.

Please use crystal sugar i have linked in the post. The powdered sugar doesnt go well.
After pouring into tray if you find the kalakand sticky pour the same into the instant pot and stir it for another 5 – 7 minutes.You will get the right texture.

Milk barfi /kalakand in instant pot is easy to make with less intervention
Ingredients
- 4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup sugar adjust according to your taste
- 6 tsp ghee /clarified butter
Instructions
